It is home to stunning heritage sites

The region is home to some of the most famous landmarks like Whitby Abbey (founded in 657 AD) and Scarborough Castle (a former medieval Royal fortress) There is plenty of interesting historic sites to explore within the region.
Whitby Abbey is perfectly situated to make an excursion of a day. The beautiful ruin of the abbey looks out over the ocean, perched on an edifice over the town. The abbey, which is now considered to be one of the best well-known historic sites located in North Yorkshire, was the basis for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel Dracula.
The opposite way, approximately 11 miles from the coast, Scarborough Castle is one of the regions most important structures. Henry II’s magnificent tower, constructed between 1159-1169, and the castle’s medieval walls, rise above the headland. The castle walls contain the remains of the 13th century royal residence. If you’re traveling towards North Yorkshire by car, Rievaulx Abbey is just over an hour’s drive from Ravenscar. With a history dating back to 900 years and awe-inspiring monastic ruin, these stunning monastic ruins look like something from a fairy-tale. The abbey was established in 1132. It is the one of the first Cistercian abbey to established in northern England. In its glory days the monastery was home to a 650-strong population. While the monastery was demolished in 1538 the remains have inspired artists and writers throughout the years since.
The best local cuisine
Everywhere around the globe has its own speciality, and in Yorkshire it’s highly recommended to try the traditional pie. There are exceptional pies that ooze of flavor in almost every pub that’s old-fashioned located in North Yorkshire. Made with love, traditional Yorkshire pie is available in a range of different flavours including hearty steak and ale , to bacon and chicken or cheese and onions.
